What is Integrated Pest Management?
It does not mean chemicals will never be used. IPM is an ecosystem-based strategy that focuses on long-term prevention of pests or their damage through a combination of techniques such as biological control, habitat manipulation, modification of cultural practices, and use of resistant varieties. Pesticides are used only after other methods have been exhausted. Pest control methods are selected and applied in a manner that minimizes risks to human health, beneficial and nontarget organisms, and the environment.
How does Cyclone Pest & Lawn implement IPM?
We start every treatment plan with a discussion with you to establish your problem, your concerns and discuss your options. While we do offer a quarterly plan with our Home Shield, we do not spray every 3 months if it isn't needed. You will receive an initial treatment and we place monitoring stations at that point. During your next appointment we will examine your stations to see if another treatment is needed. If a full treatment is not needed, we will use non-chemical treatments to continue protecting your home. While this approach may take longer during each visit we feel it is what is right to protect your family and the environment. If you ever have a concern between scheduled appointments we are happy to visit your home and make a treatment if needed.
Are there any disadvantages to IPM?
If there is a severe infestation, it can take longer to get under control. In those situations, we decrease the time between appointments until we feel the infestation is being effectively managed.
